Our mission: The Virginia Literacy Foundation promotes literacy aross the lifespan for all Virginians. Our vision: Everyone is literate. All Virginians have the literacy skills to be successful in school, secure gainful employment, and contribute to their communities.

The Virginia Literacy Foundation provides funding, training, and technical support to non-profit adult literacy organizations throughout Virginia.

  • Serving as a leader and convener in promoting literacy across the lifespan, especially early literacy, adult literacy, workforce education, and family literacy
  •  Developing or identifying innovative approaches and best practices to improve literacy instruction and to strengthen delivery of literacy services
  •  Delivering professional development and technical assistance based on best practices and innovative approaches to literacy providers statewide (including an annual statewide conference)

For every dollar the VLF receives, 92 cents goes to programs (2018 audit). Standard costs for nonprofit orgnizations is that for every dollar they receive, 75 cents goes to programs. Graphic of two pie charts.
